The January transfer market is typically a period of significant rumour and possible big-money transfers. A number of notable footballers find themselves linked with moves away from their present clubs. We examine a selection of the major figures that are poised to be changing clubs this month.

A. Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' inability to reach the AFCON, which has kept the player available, it appears a major move is imminent. The Bournemouth attacker has a contract featuring a substantial buy-out clause applicable for a brief period in early January. Latest reports suggest Manchester City look to have won the race for his services. Other suitors like Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have turned their attention to other options, potentially opening the door for teams like Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a last-minute move.

M. Guéhi

This English centre-back has excel for Crystal Palace this season a summer move to Anfield collapsing. As his deal set to run out in the close season, this represents the club's final opportunity to obtain a fee for their skipper. Numerous top clubs, including City and multiple continental powerhouses including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly hold an interest. Yet, a winter exit is considered unlikely, particularly given the coach's reliance on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

This Welsh winger has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Tottenham this term. Despite finishing as the club's top scorer last season, he has started just a handful of Premier League games. Reports suggest the London club is open to a transfer for the correct price, thought to be in the region of forty million pounds. The Cherries appear to be leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an inquiry.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese midfielder could be set for a return to the English top flight following a period in the Saudi Pro League. Now just twenty-eight, and with his contract ending in the summer of 2026, he represents a possible opportunity. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United are linked with the player. Furthermore, there are rumours from Spanish media that he is willing to take a reduced salary for a switch to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

The experienced German goalkeeper is now as the third option at Barcelona following the manager Flick. After fallen out of favour and had surgery, a January exit looks highly likely. Aston Villa were once linked as a potential suitor, but that option now appears off. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly expressing interest in the keeper.

I. Toney

This proven England centre-forward has kept scoring frequently in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League might boost his fading chances of being in the England World Cup. However, arranging a transfer presents significant hurdles. His current club are reluctant to part with him, and his reported enormous weekly wages render any agreement difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United are all linked as admirers.

K. Yildiz

This exciting Turkey forward has been in fine form for Juventus this season. As his existing deal running down, many English clubs – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the situation. Juventus are desperate to secure the youngster to a new long-term agreement but are in a race to retain one of the continent's brightest prospects.

Kees Smit

This much-admired Dutch midfielder has drawn parallels to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. Following starring at the Under-19 European Championship, he has broken into the AZ first team. This 19-year-old is widely tipped to complete a major transfer in January. Newcastle reportedly are leading the chase, but are facing strong rivalry from Real Madrid for a deal valued at around twenty-two million pounds.
